WildCats Take Down Battling Bishops 3-0

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's volleyball team hosted North Caroline Wesleyan in the first of four matches that the WildCats are hosting as part of the Hill City Classic. The two teams were missing for the second time in less than a week and the 'Cats came out on top on the evening as they won 3-0 (25-16, 25-18, 25-21).

The Battling Bishops scored the first two points in the first set but Randolph responded with a 6-2 run to lead 6-4. N.C. Wesleyan closed to within one point at 9-8 and 12-11 but the WildCats continued to stay out in front with an 8-3 run to go ahead 20-14. With the score standing at 21-16, the WildCats scored the last four points of the set to win 25-16.

Randolph was ahead 10-7 in the third set but the Battling Bishops came back to go up 12-11. The WildCats countered with a 9-2 run to go up 21-15. Still holding a 21-17 advantage, the 'Cats outscored NCWC 4-1 down the stretch to win the frame 25-18.

In the third set, N.C. Wesleyan broke a 13-13 tie with a 5-0 run to lead 18-13. Randolph came roaring back with a 7-1 run to snatch the lead away and go ahead 20-19. The Battling Bishops tied the set at 20-all but the WildCats were too much in the end as they went on a 5-1 run to close out NCWC and take the set 25-21.

Jillian Warter (Leesburg, Va./Loudon County) and Brooke Murdock (Evington, Va./Timberlake Christian) both had 10 kills to lead the WildCats. Murdock had a hitting percentage of .529. Warter and Abby Maldonado (High Point, N.C./Penn-Griffin-SOTA) both had 12 digs each. McKayla Padgett (Amherst, Va./Amherst County HS) added 11 digs. Kailee Turner (Virginia Beach, Va./Kempsville) totaled 23 assists.

Randolph will play LaGrange tomorrow morning at 11:00 am followed by William Peace at 1:00 p.m.
