LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team hosted its second straight game of the 2024 season as it welcomed Greensboro on Sunday afternoon at a warm and humid WildCat Stadium. The 'Cats trailed 1-0 up until the 61st minute as they tallied a pair of second half goals to come away with a hard fought 2-1 victory.
A foul by Mark Robinson (Amherst, Va./Amherst County HS) in the 15th minute granted Greensboro a penalty kick goal. Jalen King was able to convert on the opportunity as the visitors led 1-0. Randolph led 6-2 in total shots in the first half with just coming on frame. Nick Conboy's (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) shot attempt at 41:43 glanced off the left post.
Greensboro held its lead for over 15 minutes of the second half as the Pride continued to frustrate the Wildcats and keep them off balance. Randolph finally got its opportunity at 60:27 as Cooper Sayles (Hamilton, Va./Loudon Valley) assisted Rhajee Scarlett (Atlanta, Ga./Rosewell) on the goal to knot the game at 1-1.
Just over 10 minutes later, the WildCats were given a penalty kick goal of their own. Anelka Ngoy (Roanoke, Va./Patrick Henry) calmly booted the ball into the back of the net to give the 'Cats a 2-1 advantage. Randolph had a small 4-3 advantage in shots during the period.
Overall, Randolph finished the game with a 10-5 advantage in total shots and 4-2 in shots on goal. The WildCats had seven corner kicks to two for the Pride.
Carter Kelly (Carrollton, Va./Smithfield) had one save for Randolph. Cristian Del Cid finished with two saves.
The WildCats travel to William Peace on Saturday. Game time from Cary, N.C. is at 12:00 p.m.
