Men’s Tennis Defeats Hampden-Sydney 5-4

HAMPDEN SYDNEY, VA- The Randolph men's tennis team went on the road to Hampden-Sydney for a critical ODAC match on Tuesday afternoon. The outcome of the match came down to third singles where Randolph's Ondra Pelda (Prague, Czech Republic) clinched it for the WildCats as they won 5-4 over the Tigers.

Randolph improves its overall record to 8-6 and is now 2-3 in conference play. Hampden-Sydney falls to 4-11 overall and 2-3 in the ODAC.

The 'Cats took one match in doubles play and it came at first doubles. Pelda and Jacob Martin were able to outlast the pair of Dillion McReynolds and Casey Coffey 8-7.

Martin defeated McReynolds 6-4, 7-6 at first singles. Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) got over Taylor Fox 6-4, 6-0 at second singles. Dev Mani (Bangalore, India/St. Claret PU College) won his first match in over a month as he held off Matt Kendrick 6-3, 6-3 at fifth singles. Pelda's third singles match against Henry Singleton was the last one on the court. Pelda took the first set 6-3. The second set was tight with the score knotted at 6-6. Pelda was able to outlast Singleton as he won the tiebreaker 13-11 to secure the victory for the WildCats.

Randolph will next travel to Mary Baldwin on Friday. The match begins at 3:00 p.m.
