WINCHESTER, Va.- The Randolph softball team played its final regular season doubleheader of the season as they faced Shenandoah on Sunday afternoon. The Hornets took both games by scores of 6-2 and 4-3.
In Game 1, Shenandoah took a 1-0 lead in the third inning. Randolph answered in the fourth inning on Jenna McDermott's (Townsend, Del./Middletown HS) two-run single as the WildCats went ahead 2-1.
The Hornets pulled away in their portion of the fifth inning as they scored four runs to lead 5-2. SU would go on to add another run in the sixth inning.
Emily Morris (Esmont, Va./Monticello) pitched 4 1/3 innings in the circle. She allowed five runs (two earned) on six hits and struck out two batters. Delaney Sipes (Arrington, Va./Amherst County) came in for the final 1 2/3 innings. She gave up one run on two hits.
McDermott went 3-for-4 with two RBI and stole two bases. Morris was 2-for-2 with a double. Desiree Scott (Reva, Va./Eastern View) was 1-for-2 with a run scored.
In the second game, Randolph led 2-0 in the second inning. Scott had a RBI double and Chesney Shook (Advance, N.C./Davie County HS) a RBI single as the WildCats led 2-0.
The 'Cats held their lead until the Shenandoah third inning when Paige Eagleton hit a three-run homer to give the home team a 3-2 lead.
In the WildCat fifth with two outs, Lexi Hawkins (Lynchburg, Va./Liberty Christian) singled to center field to score McDermott and tie the game at 3-3 but Irving was tagged out at third base to end the inning.
The game would remain tied going into the bottom of seventh inning. Rachel Blumenschine led off with a double and reached third base on a fielder's choice. Allison McQueeney came up and singled to left field which allowed Bluemenschine to score the game-winning run.
Austyn Moran (Troutville, Va./James River) pitched six innings in the circle. She allowed four runs on nine hits, walked one, and struck out one.
Irving was 3-for-3 with a triple. Scott finished 1-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI. Shook went 2-for-3 with a RBI. Hawkins was 1-for-3 with a RBI. Â
Randolph ends its season with a final record of 11-25 and 7-15 in ODAC play.
