LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph softball team hosted #15 Virginia Wesleyan in an ODAC doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon. The Marlins claimed both games by scores of 13-2 and 6-2.
In the first game, Lacey Lucado (Buchanan, Va./James River) was 1-for-2 with a double and two RBI. Dominique Irving (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) went 2-for-3.
Emily Morris (Esmont, Va./Monticello) pitched 2 1/3 innings in the circle. She allowed five runs on four hits and walked four. Delaney Sipes (Arrington, Va./Amherst County) put in 3 2/2 innings. She surrendered eight runs on 11 hits, walked three, and struck out one.
In Game 2, the Marlins led 2-0 after the first inning. Randolph evened it up in the third. Jenna McDermott (Townsend, Del./Middletown HS) singled to center field to score one run and Lexi Hawkins (Lynchburg, Va./Liberty Christian) reached on a fielder's choice to score a second.
The Marlins scored once in the fourth, fifth, sixth, and seventh innings. In the Randolph bottom of the fifth, the WildCats had the bases loaded with no outs. All three runners were left stranded as the 'Cats came away empty handed.
Austyn Moran (Troutville, Va./James River) pitched all seven innings in the circle. She allowed six runs (five earned) on 10 hits, walked two, and struck out two.
McDermott finished 3-for-4 with a RBI. Irving and Hawkins were both 2-for-4.
Hawkins caught a runner stealing in the first inning. That gives her 14 runners caught stealing for the season to set a new Randolph single-season record. Lucado was hit by a pitch once in each game to give her 11 HBP and a new WildCat single season record.
Randolph hosts its regular season finale this coming Saturday against Eastern Mennonite. Game time is at 1:00 for the first game of the doubleheader.
