LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team hosted the University of Lynchburg on Wednesday afternoon in its regular season home finale. The Hornets came out on top on the day with a 6-3 victory.
Randolph's overall record drops to 11-8 overall and 4-5 in ODAC play. The Hornets improve to 10-4 overall and 5-3 in the conference.
Lynchburg led 2-1 after doubles play. Jacob Martin and Ondra Pelda (Prague, Czech Republic) picked up the lone win for the 'Cats as they defeated Levi Vigdorchik and Alex Rintoul 8-3 at first doubles.
In singles play, Martin went three sets with Vigdorchik. He lost the first set 6-3 before taking the second set 6-3. Vigdorchik won the third set 6-1. Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) knocked off Shadi Kallel 6-1, 6-4 at second singles.
Dev Mani (Bangalore, India/St. Claret PU College) defeated Christian Zepeda 6-2, 6-0 at fifth singles. Pelda went to a super tiebreak in his third singles match against Sebastian Sierra. Sierra edged out Pelda 7-6 (11-9) in the first set while Pelda claimed the second set 6-2. The super tiebreak went to Sierra 1-0 (10-8).
The WildCats now prepare for the ODAC Tournament which begins with Quarterfinal play on Tuesday. Opponent and site will be announced following the conclusion of Saturday's matches.
