Kersten Ties Women’s Tennis Single Season Wins Record

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team hosted Virginia Wesleyan in a designated non-conference match on Tuesday afternoon. The Marlins defeated the WildCats 6-3.

In the singles portion, Lena Kersten (Bonn, Germany/Otto Kuhne Schule) defeated Tuva Flink 6-2, 6-0 at first singles. That win gives Kersten her 18th of the season and ties the single season record for wins set by Rashanna Moss in the 1998-1999 season.

Randolph led 2-1 after doubles. Kersten and Sabrina Dickerson (Brookneal, Va.) won 8-5 over Flink and Sophie Engelbert. Amanda Jagdeo (South Ozone, Park, NY/Flushing HS) and Maddie Mills (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) edged out Kristian Abrams and Haley Haydon 8-7 in third doubles.

Molly McNair (New South Wales, Australia/Figtree) was the last on the court at fifth singles. She went to a super tiebreaker against Sophia Bibbo. Bibbo won the first set 6-4 while McNair took the second set 6-4. Bibbo took the tiebreaker 1-0 (10-7).

Prio to the match, seniors Jagdeo and McNair were recognized.

The WildCats conclude their regular season this coming Saturday as they host Lynchburg. The match begins at 11:00 a.m.
