LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team hosted the University of Lynchburg in its regular season home finale on Saturday afternoon. The WildCats went out winners as they defeated the Hornets 7-2.
It is the first win for Randolph over Lynchburg since 2017 and ends a five-match winless streak to the Hornets.
Lena Kersten (Bonn, Germany/Otto Kuhne Schule) defeated Lauren Pascadlo 6-0, 6-0 at first singles. For Kersten, it is her 19th singles win of the season and sets a Randolph single season record for singles wins.
Gianna Cabrera (Portsmouth, Va.) won 6-3, 6-2 over Emily Wren at sixth singles. Molly McNair (New South Wales, Australia/Figtree) clinched the match for Randolph as she was a 6-1, 6-2 winner over Elizabeth Horine at fifth singles. Maddie Mills (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) won her 10th match of the year with a 6-4, 6-1 victory over Reese McAtee at fourth singles.
Both Sabrina Dickerson (Brookneal, Va.) and Noura Elkhansa's (Charleston, W.V./George Washington HS) matches went to a super tiebreaker. Dickerson dropped the first set of her second singles match against Emma Pinola and recovered to win the second set 6-2. The third set went to Pinola 1-0 (10-4). Elkhansa dropped her first set at third singles to Jordan Ottavino and came back to win the second set 6-2. She also lost the third set 1-0 (10-4).
All three doubles teams won. Kersten and Dickerson shut out Pascadlo and Pinola 8-0 at first doubles. Mills and Amanda Jagdeo (South Ozone Park, NY/Flushing HS) shut down Horine and Sarah Wood 8-0 at third doubles. Elkhansa and Cabrera held off Ottavino and McAtee 8-6 at second doubles.
Randolph ends its season with a final record of 8-10 overall and 3-10 in ODAC play.
