LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team hosted Bridgewater in an ODAC match on Wednesday afternoon. The WildCats easily handled the Eagles as they won 9-0.
The win is just the second ever for Randolph against Bridgewater and the second straight year that the WildCats have defeated the Eagles. The 'Cats improve to 10-7 overall on the season which ties the program record done in both 2016 and 2017. Randolph's conference records moves to 3-4.
In the doubles portion, first and third doubles were both won by scores of 8-4 by the WildCats. The second doubles match was 8-2 in Randolph's favor.
In singles action, Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) defeated Mark Gordon 6-0, 6-0 at second singles. Jacob Martin won 6-1, 6-4 over Matthew Leonard at first singles. Ondra Pelda (Prague, Czech Republic) needed a super tiebreaker at third singles. He won the first set 7-6, dropped the second set 6-0, and recovered to edge out Corey Beshoar 1-0 (10-8) in the deciding set. Dev Mani (Bangladore, India/St. Claret PU College) also needed an extra set in his fourth singles match against Gabe Elder. Mani won the first set 7-6, dropped the second set 6-2, and came back to claim the tiebreaker 1-0 (10-5).
Jason Duval won at fifth singles 6-1, 6-3 over Noah Hughes. Angelo de Asis (Clayton, N.C./Cleveland HS) took down Bryce Cline 6-3, 6-3 at sixth singles.
The WildCats travel to Roanoke this coming Saturday. The match starts at 1:00 p.m.
