Callan, Baldwin Help Lead Men’s Lacrosse to 16-8 Win Over Averett

DANVILLE, VA.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team traveled to Averett to take on the Cougars on Saturday afternoon. Chase Callan (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) and Michael Baldwin (Liberty HS) both had big games for the WildCats as they won 16-8.

Randolph stops its winless streak at six games as it improves to 4-9 on the season.

The WildCats led 4-0 with 2:32 remaining in the first quarter. Averett finally got on the board with 1:17 left in the quarter.

The Cougars scored the first goal of the second quarter just over a minute in to make it a 4-2 game. The 'Cats rattled off three straight scores to increase their lead to 7-2 with 4:44 left in the period. The Cougars scored once to make it 7-3 but the WildCats broke off three more goals before halftime to take a 10-3 lead.

In the third quarter, Averett halved its deficit with two goals to put the score at 10-5. The WildCats would go on to outscore AU 4-1 in the quarter to go ahead 14-6. Both teams scored twice in the final period as Randolph maintained a comfortable lead over the Cougars.

Callan scored a season-high five goals on the day for the 'Cats. Baldwin added four goals and an assist. Ethan Caldwell (Sante Fe, NM/Santa Fe Prep School) scored three times and tallied an assist while also picking up four groundballs. Cooper Callan (Fredericksburg, Va,/Massaponax) scored twice and assisted on two goals. Bruce Patterson (Fork Union, Va./Fork Union Military Prep) contributed two goals and an assist while also causing two turnovers. Leyton Brightly (Spotsylvania, Va./James Monroe) assisted on four goals.

Nathan Pradachith (Alexandria, Va./Edison HS) picked up an assist and a team-high nine groundballs. He was 19-of-26 on faceoffs. Adam Ulffers (Greenville, N.C./J.H Rose HS) had 17 saves in the cage.

Randolph hosts Washington and Lee next Friday. Game time from WildCat Stadium is at 6:00 p.m.
