LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph softball team hosted cross-city Lynchburg on Wednesday afternoon for an ODAC doubleheader. The Hornets won both games by scores of 6-0 and 5-1.
In the first game, Randolph was held to three hits. Jenna McDermott (Townsend, Del./Middletown), Lexi Hawkins (Lynchburg, Va./Liberty Christian), and Emily Morris (Esmont, Va./Monticello) all had one hit each with McDermott hitting a double in the sixth inning.
Morris started in the circle for the WildCats. She went 6 1/3 innings allowing six runs on seven hits, walking three, and striking out two. Delaney Sipes (Arrington, Va./Amherst County) came in for 2/3 of an inning and struck out one batter.
In the second game, Lynchburg led 5-0 after three innings. Randolph's run came in the fourth inning on a leadoff solo home run by Desiree Scott (Reva, Va./Eastern View).
Sipes got the start and went 2 2/3 innings. She surrendered five runs (one earned) on seven hits. Austyn Moran (Troutville, Va./James River) came in for 4 1/3 innings. She gave up four hits, walked three, and struck out two.
Scott finished 2-for-3 with her home run, one run scored, and one RBI. Dominique Irving (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) was 2-for-2 and stole a base. Chesney Shook (Advance, N.C./Davie County HS) and McDermott were both 1-for-3 at the plate.
Randolph travels to Averett on Saturday. Game time from Danville is at 12:00 pm for the first game of the doubleheader.
