HILTON HEAD, S.C.- The Randolph men's tennis team played its first of three matches on the week in Hilton Head as the WIldCats took on Mount Union. The WildCats recorded their third straight shutout victory as it topped the Raiders 9-0.
Randolph moves to 5-1 on the season with the victory.
In the doubles portion, Jason Duval and Angelo De Asis (Clayton, N.C./Cleveland HS) were tied 5-5 in their third doubles match against Andrew Cavett and Adam McMillen. Duval and De Asis came back to win their match 8-5.
Duval needed a super tiebreaker in his fourth singles match against Elliot Warner. After dropping the first set 7-5, Duval won the second set 6-3 and then 1-0 (10-5) in the tiebreaking set. De Asis also went to a tiebreaker in his sixth singles match against Noah Fink. After falling in the first set 6-0, De Asis rebounded to claim the second frame 6-3 and then 1-0 (10-4) in the tiebreaker.
Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) held off a challenge from Ryan McClure in second singles winning 6-4, 6-3. Other winners were Jacob Martin at first singles, Ondra Pelda (Prague, Czech Republic) at second singles, and Dev Mani (Bangladore, India/St. Claret PU College) at fifth singles.
The WildCats will next face Pfieffer on Wednesday morning at 9:00 am.
