SWEET BRIAR, Va.- The Randolph softball team made the short trip to the campus of Sweet Briar College to face the Vixens in an ODAC doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The teams split with the WildCats winning the first game 2-1 and Sweet Briar taking the second game 7-5.

In the first game, Randolph scored once in the second inning. With runners on first and third base, Kylie Stark (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) struck out but the Vixens third baseman missed the tag that allowed Lexi Hawkins (Lynchburg, Va./Liberty Christian) to move to third and Emily Morris (Esmont, Va./Monticello) to score to put the 'Cats ahead 1-0.

The WildCats led 2-0 in the fourth inning as Morris scored on an error by the Vixens second baseman. Sweet Briar got one run back in their portion of the fourth.

In the second game, the WildCats took an early 1-0 lead as Dominique Irving (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) singled and advanced to third on an error by the Sweet Briar center fielder that allowed Maddie Carroll (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) to score. The Vixens answered back with a five-run bottom of the first to take a 5-1 lead.

Randolph closed the gap in the second inning on Michaela Williams' (Appomattox, Va./Appomattox) two-run single to make it 5-3. A solo homer by Sweet Briar's Kaylie Hudson put the home team ahead 6-3.

In the fourth inning, Chesney Shook (Advance, N.C./Davie County HS) singled with two outs. Jenna McDermott (Townsend, Del./Middletown HS) singled to move Shook to second base.  Lacey Lucado (Buchanan, Va./James River) then stepped up and singled to centerfield to score Shook and make the score 6-4. The Vixens plated one run to increase their lead to 7-4.

The WildCats closed to within two runs in the fifth inning as Stark grounded out to score Irving. In the Randolph fifth, Amanda Lawhorn (Rustburg, Va./Rustburg) hit a pinch-hit double to left field with two outs. Hawkins represented the tying run at the plate but struck out looking to end the game.
