Softball Drops ODAC Doubleheader to #11 Randolph-Macon

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph softball team opened ODAC play on Sunday afternoon as it hosted #11 Randolph-Macon in a doubleheader. The Yellow Jackets took both games winning by the scores of 7-3 and 8-2, respectively.

Randolph's overall record now stands at 4-12 and 0-2 in conference play. The Yellow Jackets improve to 9-2-1 overall and 3-1 in the ODAC.

In the first game, the 'Jackets scored twice in both the first and second innings to lead 4-0. One run would come across in the fifth inning as the visitors led 5-0.  In the Randolph fifth, Jenna McDermott (Townsend, Del./Middletown HS) led off with a double. Lacey Lucado (Buchanan, Va./James River) reached on an error by the Randolph-Macon left fielder and advanced to third base which allowed McDermott to score. Lexi Hawkins' (Lynchburg, Va./Liberty Christian) sacrifice bunt allowed Lucado to score and cut the lead to 5-2.

Randolph-Macon scored two more runs in the top of the seventh inning. Randolph scored once on a Maddie Carroll (Blue Ridge, Va./Lord Botetourt) RBI single and had two runners on with one out but the last two at-bats ended in fielder's choice outs.

Emily Morris (Esmont, Va./Monticello) pitched the full seven innings in the circle for the WildCats. She allowed seven runs (three earned) on eight hits, walked one batter, and struck out two.

McDermott continued her hot hitting of late as she was 4-for-4 for the second straight game with one double and two runs scored. Hawkins was 2-for-3 with a RBI.

In the second game, the Yellow Jackets jumped on top with a five-run first inning. They would score twice in the fifth inning and once in the seventh inning. Randolph scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh on a two-out, two-RBI single by Rachel Arce (Stafford, Va./Mountain View HS).

Austyn Moran (Troutville, Va./James River HS) started in the circle. She allowed seven runs (six earned) on 12 hits. She walked seven and struck out two. Delaney Sipes (Arrington, Va./Amherst County HS) came in relief for 2.1 innings. She gave up just one unearned run, walked two, and struck out one.

Arce was 1-for-1 as pinch hitter with two RBI. Sipes also went 1-for-1 as a pinch hitter with a run scored. Carroll, Chesney Shook (Advance, N.C./Davie County HS), and Dominique Irving (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) were all 1-for-3.

Randolph travels to Sweet Briar on Wednesday. The first game of the doubleheader starts at 1:00 p.m.
