LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team hosted William Peace on Wednesday afternoon at a windy WildCat Stadium. The WildCats recovered from an early 3-0 deficit to come back and defeat the Packers 7-5.
Randolph improves its record to 2-1 overall, The Pacers drop to 0-3.
William Peace got out ahead 3-0 with 3:33 remaining in the first quarter. Randolph would respond with three straight goals of its own to knot the contest at 3-3 at the end of the period.
The Pacers scored once early on in the second quarter to take a 4-3 lead. That advantage would stay until the WildCats netted the equalizer on an unassisted goal by Emille Taduran (Alexandria, Va./Mount Vernon) with 28 seconds left in the quarter to tie the game 4-4 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Taduran assisted Mackenzie Woodson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Collegiate) on her goal at the 13:22 mark to give the WildCats a 5-4 lead. Randolph went ahead for good as Woodson assisted on Marcela Izquierdo-Poza's (Madrid Spain/IES Julio Verne) goal at 8:07. Maddie Friel (Suffolk, Va./Nansemond River) later scored off a pass from Quinn Hooper to put the 'Cats ahead 7-5. The Pacers scored the game's final goal at 10:09 of the fourth quarter.
It was the Pacers that led in total shots 27-19 and in groundballs 20-16.
Woodson had a four-point day for the WildCats with two goals scored and two assists. Taduran scored once and assisted on another goal. Logan Warren (Chesterfield, Va./Steward School), Alexis Bossi (Falls Church, Va./Justice HS), Friel, and Izquerido-Poza all scored once.
Poza won five draws. Mireya Norville (Sunrise, Fla./South Plantation) stopped eight shots in the cage and picked up five groundballs.
Randolph hosts Lynchburg this coming Saturday. Game time is at 1:00 p.m.
