LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team hosted Averett in an ODAC match on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars defeated the WildCats 8-1.
Randolph's overall record now stands at 5-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play. Averett improves to 3-3 overall and 3-0 in the conference.
The WildCats' lone win of the day came at first singles as Lena Kersten (Bonn, Germany/Otto Kuhn Schule) faced Siddhi Khandelwal. Khandelwal took the first set 6-3. Kersten battled back to claim the second set 6-2 and won the deciding third set 1-0 (10-6). Kersten improves to 10-0 on the season and has matched the best start since Jenna Sweet won her first 10 singles matches in the 2014-2015 season.
Molly McNair (New South Wales, Australia/Figtree) was the last on the court at fifth singles. She was edged out 7-6 (8-6) by Ana Herrera in the first set and fell to Herrera 6-1 in the second set.
All three doubles matches were won by Averett by an 8-1 score.
Randolph travels to Guilford on Wednesday. The match begins at 3:30 p.m.
