Women’s Tennis Edged by Guilford; Kersten Off to Best Start in Program History

Lena Kersten improved to 11-0 to set a new program record for best start ever

GREENSBORO, N.C.- The Randolph women's tennis played an ODAC match at Guilford on Wednesday afternoon. It was a close match as the Quakers edged out the WildCats 5-4. Randolph's overall record is 5-5 and 1-3 in conference play.

In singles play, Lena Kersten (Bonn, Germany/Otto Kuhne Schule) defeated Ashley Belnap 6-0, 6-1 at first singles. With the win, Kersten improves to 11-0 and sets a new program mark for best start to the season.

Kersten paired with Sabrina Dickerson (Brookneal, Va.) at first doubles to defeat the duo of Belnap and Kancie Tate 8-2. It was Randolph's only win in doubles play. Maddie Mills (Fredericksburg, Va./Riverbend) and Tori Yancey (Lynchburg, Va.) dropped a close decision to Nya Reed and Bethany Lupo 8-6.

Dickerson needed three sets in her second singles match against Jolie Nhouyvanisvong. Dickerson won the first set 6-4 with Nhouyvanisvong taking the second set 6-3. Dickerson was able to win the third set 6-4.

Gianna Cabrera (Portsmouth, Va.) was a winner at fifth singles as she was victorious over Reed 6-3, 6-0.

Randolph will play its next match on March 30 at home against Randolph-Macon. Start time is 1:00 p.m.
