LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team hosted Averett in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference match on Saturday afternoon. The Cougars defeated the WildCats 7-2.
The 'Cats drop to 6-3 on the season and 1-2 in ODAC play. AU is now 1-4 and 1-0 in the conference.
The WildCats took one match in doubles play. Jacob Martin and Ondra Pelda (Prague, Czech Republic) defeated Alex Donnelly and Alex Rudy 8-4 at first doubles. Second doubles saw the pair of Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) and Jason Duval drop an 8-4 decision to Kazuki Fukushima and Jaden Mukkaladyll.
In the singles portion of the match, Martin went three sets against Donnelly at first singles. Martin took the first set 7-5 while Donnelly claimed the second set 6-4. Martin dominated Donnelly 6-0 in the third set.
Mulner was the last on the court as he went three sets against Mukkaladyll at second singles. Mukkaladyll won the first set 7-5 and Mulner won 6-3 in the second set. The third set saw Mukkaladyll win 6-3 over Mulner.
Pelda won three games against Sam Egui at third singles but lost 6-0 in the second set.
Randolph travels to Guilford on Wednesday. The match starts at 3:30 p.m.
