HUNTINGTON, Pa.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team made the long trip to central Pennsylvania on Saturday as the WildCats faced Juniata. A close game saw the host Eagles pull away in the fourth quarter on their way to a 12-5 win.
Randolph falls to 3-4 on the season while JC improves to 2-5.
Juniata scored the first two goals of the game in the first quarter to lead 2-0. The WildCats cut the lead in half as Bruce Patterson (Fork Union, Va./Fork Union Military Academy) assisted on Chase Callan's (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) goal with 9:20 remaining in the quarter. Two more Eagles goals gave the home team a 4-1 advantage with 4:39 left in the period. Patterson scored on a man-up opportunity to make it 4-2. Juniata scored once more to take a 5-2 lead into the second quarter.
Defense ruled the second quarter as just one goal was scored by Juniata with 4:40 remaining. Two straight WildCat scores late in the third quarter made it a 6-4 contest. The Eagles scored three times spanning the third and fourth periods to lead 9-4 early in the final period of play. Another man-up opportunity saw the 'Cats take advantage as Nathan Pradachith (Alexandria, Va./Edison HS) assisted Cooper Callan (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) on the goal to get Randolph to within four with 9:18 left on the clock. Juniata would end up closing out the game with three more goals to take the victory.
Patterson had a three-point day for the WildCats with two goals and one assist. Chase and Cooper Callan both scored once as did Michael Baldwin (Culpepper, Va./Liberty HS).
Tom Stahler (Johannesburg, South Africa) and Adam Ulffers (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose HS) both picked up a team-high eight groundballs. Ulffers stopped 24 shots in the cage.
Randolph begins ODAC play on Wednesday at Hampden-Sydney. Game time is at 6:00 p.m.
