LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph softball team returned home to host Maryville on a warm and sunny Wednesday afternoon. The WildCats took the first game of the doubleheader 4-1 while the Scots claimed the second game 6-0.
In the first game, the WildCats went ahead 1-0 in the bottom of the second on Kylie Stark's (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville) RBI single. In the third inning, Lacey Lucado's (Buchanan, Va./James River) RBI double scored one run to put Randolph ahead 2-0. The Scots scored a run in their portion of the fifth inning to make it a 2-1 game. The 'Cats got the run back in their half of the inning on a Rachel Arce (Stafford, Va./Mountain View HS) RBI single to take a 3-1 lead. Randolph's final run came in the bottom of the sixth as Dominque Irving (Amherst, Va./Amherst County) singled in a run.
Emily Morris (Esmont, Va./Monticello) pitched a complete seven innings in the circle for the WildCats. She allowed just one run on four hits, walked four, and struck out three.
At the plate, Irving and Lucado were both 2-for-3 with a RBI. Irving also stole a base. Addy Compton (Forest, Va./Jefferson Forest HS) and Chesney Shook (Advance, N.C./Davie County HS) were both 1-for-3 with a run scored for each player.
In the second game, Randolph was held to three hits. Desiree Scott (Reva, Va./Eastern View) and Michaela Williams (Appomattox, Va./Appomattox) both had a hit in their only at-bat of the game. Irving was 1-for-3.
Delaney Sipes (Arrington, Va./Amherst County HS) got the start in the circle. She went four innings and allowed four runs on four hits. She walked two. Austyn Moran (Troutville, Va./James River HS) came in for the final three innings. She gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits, walked two, and struck out two.
Randolph is back on the field tomorrow as it hosts Southern Virginia. The first game of the doubleheader begins at 1:00 p.m.
