Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Baldwin’s Six Goals Leads Men’s Lacrosse to 15-14 Season-Opening Win

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team hosted William Peace in its home opener on Saturday afternoon. The WildCats overcame a third quarter deficit to rally and overtake the Pacers 15-14.

William Peace led 2-1 after the first quarter of play. After a Michael Baldwin (Culpepper, Va./Liberty HS) goal at 11:13 of the second quarter tied the game at 2-2, William Peace scored three straight times to go up 5-2 with 3:18 remaining in the period. The WildCats tied it up at 5-5 with three straight scores including the game-tying goal from Ethan Caldwell (Santa Fe, N.M./Santa Fe Prep School) with just over a second remaining in the quarter.

In the third quarter, the Pacers came out hot with a run of four straight goals in just over two minutes of game time to lead 9-5. The 'Cats closed to within one score with three goals but William Peace answered with three goals of their own to go up 12-8 heading into the final quarter of play.

In the fourth quarter, goals by Leyton Brightly (Spotsylvania, Va./James Monroe) and Chase Callan (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax), made it a 12-10 game. The Pacers scored to make it 13-10. Randolph rattled off three goals to knot the game at 13-13 with 7:45 showing on the game clock. William Peace took the lead with under four minutes left to play. An unsportsmanlike penalty on the Pacers' Jakob Galluzo gave Randolph a man-up opportunity that it took advantage of as Baldwin's goal tied the contest at 14-14 with 1:33 left. Another penalty on the Pacers granted the WildCats an additional extra man opportunity. That set up Baldwin for the game-winning goal with 1:17 left off an assist from Caldwell.

Baldwin finished with a career-high six goals to go along with two assists for a 10-point day. Chase Callan also had a career afternoon with four goals and three assists. Brightly scored twice and assisted on a third goal. Bruce Patterson (Fork Union, Va./Fork Union Military Acad.) tallied a goal and an assist. Caldwell finished with one goal and three assists. Cooper Callan scored his first collegiate goal.

Adam Ulffers (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose HS) stopped 17 shots in the cage. Nathan Pradachith (Alexandria, Va./Edison) picked up 12 groundballs and caused two turnovers.

Randolph edged out William Peace in total shots 44-42 and in shots on goal 32-31. The WildCats picked up 29 groundballs to the Pacer's 18. The 'Cats were 3-for-3 on the extra man opportunity.

The WildCats host Oglethorpe next Saturday. Game time will be at 1:00 p.m.
