The Randolph women's basketball team qualified for the ODAC Tournament for the fourth straight season. The #8 seed WildCats host #9 seed Ferrum on Tuesday night at 7:00 pm at Giles Gymnasium. The winner will face #1 seed Washington and Lee in Salem, Va. on Friday.
How They Got Here: Randolph posted an overall record of 15-10 and an 8-10 mark in ODAC play. Ferrum is 10-15 overall with a 7-11 record in conference play. The Panthers have won four of their last five games.
The Series: The two teams will be meeting for the 21st time overall. Randolph leads the series 11-9 and are winners of the last four games.
Last Time: When the two teams last played each other on January 3 in Lynchburg, Randolph won by the score of 50-30. Ferrum led 11-10 after the first quarter but the WildCats outscored the Panthers 12-4 in the second period, 11-8 in the third quarter, and 17-7 in the final quarter. Kylie Stark scored 11 points with Jessica Jennings adding 10 points.
In the ODAC Tournament: Randolph is making its 21st ODAC Tournament appearance. Last year's 65-59 win over Guilford in the quarterfinals advanced the WildCats to the semifinal round for the first time in program history. The WildCats qualified for eight straight tournaments from 1984 to 1991 but did not earn another berth until 2013. This is the second time both teams will be meeting in the First Round. Randolph and Ferrum last met in the First Round in 2021 during the COVID pandemic shortened season. The Panthers defeated the WildCats 65-48 in that game.
The WildCats: Stark is averaging 13.3 points per game with Jennings averaging 13.2 points. Jennings has a team-high 66 steals which leads the ODAC. Jennings' 80 assists are fifth in the conference. Stark leads the ODAC in free throw percentage at 92.6% and is also first in all of Division III. Abbie Baker leads the WildCats in total rebounds with 130 and blocks with 14.
The Panthers: Ferrum is led in scoring this season by senior Kayla Cabiness, who is averaging 15.9 points per game. Trina Lewis is averaging 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds. Allyson Cassell is Ferrum's leading rebounder, averaging 8.4 per game.
