Women's Basketball Roll Past Greensboro in Dominant 76-35 Victory

The Randolph College women's basketball team put together a dominant performance, cruising to a 76-35 victory over Greensboro College on Saturday afternoon at Giles Gymnasium. The win improves the WildCats' record to 5-2 on the season.

"Great game to epitomize Thanksgiving as we shared the basketball extremely well with a season high 21 assists," said head coach Steve Lanpher. "Defensively, we jumped on them with our pressure and limited their available shot opportunities and never looked back."

The WildCats dominated the first quarter with a strong start, fueled by key contributions from multiple players. Kylie Stark led the charge with several baskets, including a jumper and a fastbreak layup, showcasing her scoring ability. Maddie Pabon was pivotal, adding a layup, a three-pointer, and multiple rebounds to keep the WildCats in control. Taniya Jackson's early three-pointer and Lexanna Oge's fastbreak layup highlighted Randolph's ability to capitalize on turnovers and transition opportunities. Defensively, the WildCats were relentless, with Oge and Stark delivering critical blocks and the team forcing turnovers that led to fastbreak points. Randolph's balanced offense and defensive intensity helped them build a commanding 25-7 lead by the end of the quarter.

Randolph maintained its dominance despite a slower offensive pace in the second quarter. Jackson and Stark returned to the court, contributing defensively and creating opportunities. Pabon and Brooklyn Finnerty were instrumental in generating turnovers and converting key plays. Finnerty's hustle resulted in a second-chance layup, while Teniyah Crehshaw-Patterson added critical points in the paint, extending Randolph's lead. The WildCats defense held Greensboro to 22.8% (13-57) from the field and 6.8% (1-16) from behind the arc in the first half.

"I thought our point guard tandem of Taniya and Imani controlled the tempo and initiated our offense well," said Lanpher.

Randolph College dominated the second half, showcasing consistent offensive and defensive performance to extend their lead against Greensboro. Strong defensive presence and fast-paced scoring led by Jasmin Williams' three-pointer and key plays from others. As the fourth quarter progressed, Randolph maintained control with significant contributions from bench players like Kamora Lewis and Simone Brown, culminating in extended leads through quick transitions and sharp shooting.

"Great job on the glass with Maddie, who had nine and Aliyah with nine boards as well," said Lanpher. "It is always nice to have games where everyone is available.  Really cool to have Kam score her first collegiate points with two 3-pointers."

Randolph's depth was a significant factor, with the bench contributing 30 points compared to Greensboro's 7. Leading the way for Randolph was Stark, who tallied 16 points, four rebounds, and four assists. Crenshaw-Patterson added 13 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists for a near triple-double in a strong all-around performance. Pabon and Imani Hardin added eight points each and Jackson had seven and Lewis with six from three-pointers in the fourth quarter. The WildCats controlled the boards, grabbing 57 rebounds, including 18 on the offensive end, which led to 17 second-chance points.

"Teniyah played a great game and was very efficient," said Lanpher. "Kylie played a nice all around game with 16 points , four rebounds, four assists and two steals."

The 'Cats are back home on Wednesday for ODAC play against Averett at 5 p.m. in Giles Gymnasium.
