MOUNT OLIVE (Nov. 4) - Randolph College women's wrestling team took to the mats in its first match of the season on Saturday at the Trojan Open with impressive efforts, highlighted by Kylie Brigman and Alanna Jennings, who each put together remarkable performances in their respective weight classes.

Kylie Brigman showed resilience and skill in the 117 weight class, advancing through several consolation rounds with impressive falls. After receiving a bye in the first round, Brigman encountered a tough challenge in Jenna Anderson, who won by a 10-0 tech fall. Determined to make a comeback, Brigman pinned her way through the consolation bracket, first taking down Gabriella Bumgardner of Union Pines in just 1:05. She followed this with another fall against Ayonna McNeil of Mount Olive at 1:40 and continued her streak with a quick 54-second fall over Aliyah Gonzalez of Brewton-Parker. Brigman's momentum finally halted in the consolation semifinals, where Shammilka Miranda of Cumberlands ended her run with a 10-0 tech fall. 

Alanna Jennings also excelled for the WildCats, making a deep run in the 124 weight class. Jennings started her day strong with a first-round fall over Say Paw of Brewton-Parker College in just 1:05. She continued to shine in her quarterfinal match, pinning Jasmin Sawyer of Lindsey Wilson at the 4:17 mark. Jennings faced her toughest opponent in the semifinals, where Abigail Vanderheyden of Lindsey Wilson claimed victory by fall at 5:56. In the consolation semifinal, Jennings fought hard but was ultimately defeated by Teresa Canady of Pembroke RTC via a 15-4 tech fall. 

The WildCats return to the mat on Sunday, Nov. 10, when they host Greensboro and The Apprentice School in a tri-meet, starting at 2 p.m.
