Women's Soccer Falls to Lynchburg 0-4

LYNCHBURG, Va. - The Randolph College women's soccer team faced a tough challenge on Saturday afternoon, suffering a 0-4 defeat to the University of Lynchburg in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC) match-up.

 From the opening whistle, the Hornets controlled the tempo, pressing high and keeping the WildCats on the defensive. Morgan Oliver of Lynchburg found the back of the net in the 12th minute, capitalizing on a well-placed cross into the box for an early 1-0 lead. Two minutes later, the Hornets netted its second goal from Ella Tampio-Iorns for a 2-0 advantage. The WildCats continued to look to put a point on the board, but the Hornets' defensive held firm and kept the WildCats scoreless going into halftime. 

In the second half, the Hornets opened with an early goal from Oliver to put Lynchburg up 3-0 over the WildCats. Randolph showed flashes of scoring opportunities, but Lynchburg's defense remained solid, limiting Randolph's chances on goal. Madelyn Boyce netted another goal for the Hornets in the 59th minute to seal the game. 

Overall, the Hornets held a 35-2 advantage in total shots and 19-2 in shots on goal. Rachel Fields tallied 10 saves and Abby Gilbert recorded five saves in today's match for the Wildcats. 

The 'Cats hit the road, next, for an ODAC match-up against Averett University. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
