Men’s Basketball Falls To Shenandoah at Home 74-63

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team hosted Shenandoah in an ODAC contest on Saturday afternoon at Giles Gymnasium. The WildCats trailed by 22 points at halftime rallying to get to within singles digits but the Hornets stayed out in front as they won by the score of 74-63.

SU led 13-3 with under 15 minutes to play in the first half. It was a 21-13 game at the 10:45 mark but the Hornets went on a 13-1 run to go up 34-14 with 7:39 showing on the game clock. Shenandoah was able to increase its lead to 22 points, 49-27, at the break.

In the second half, the WildCats came out strong as they scored 13 straight points to trail 49-40 at 15:44. The Hornets brought their lead back up to 14 points but again the 'Cats mounted another rally as they cut their deficit in half to seven points, 54-47, with 10:41 remaining to play.

Down 63-53 with 5:10 left in the game, Randolph got a pair of three-point baskets by Danny Bickey (Beckley, W.V./Woodrow Wilson) and a jump shot to make it a two-possession contest, 65-61 with under three minutes to play. It was 70-63 at 1:33 but the Hornets converted four free throws in the last 50 seconds to secure the win.

Both teams shot 24-of-51 (47.1%) from the floor. Randolph hit 9-of-18 (50%) from behind the three-point arc while the Hornets were 10-of-21 (47.6%). The Hornets led in rebounds 31-29. The WildCats did control points in the paint with a 28-18 advantage.

Bickey finished with 22 points to lead all scorers. Ty Clingerman (Front Royal, Va./Skyline HS) scored a career-high 15 points. Landon Wagoner (Martinsville, Va./Carlisle School) added 13 points. Rayvon Graham (Lynchburg, Va./E.C. Glass) led in rebounds with six.

Randolph travels to Ferrum on Wednesday. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
