FERRUM, Va.- The Randolph men's basketball team made a midweek trip to Ferrum on Wednesday evening. The Panthers defeated the WildCats by the score of 82-67.
The WildCats led 19-13 with 8:07 remaining in the first half. The Panthers then went on a 14-0 run to go ahead 27-19 with 4:14 showing on the game clock. The WildCats would eventually cut their deficit to six points, 32-26, as Amari Gorham (Yorktown, Va./Yorktown) made a layup at the buzzer.
Ferrum started the second half on an 18-5 run to lead 49-31. Randolph was able to get as close as 13 points with 1:19 left in regulation but the Panthers stayed out in front in the end.
Randolph was 22-of-65 (33.8%) from the floor and 9-of-27 (33.3%) from behind the three-point arc. Ferrum shot 27-of51 (52.9%) overall and 3-of-14 (21.4%) from behind the three-point arc. The WildCats led in rebounds 38-37.
Danny Bickey (Beckley, W.V./Woodrow Wilson) led the WildCats with 14 points to go with five rebounds and two assists. Gorham finished with 10 points, seven rebounds, and three steals. Cole Perry (Salisbury, N.C./Jesse Carson HS) grabbed a team-high nine rebounds and scored seven points. Evan Wiehe (Northfield, OH/Nordonia) and Nehemiah Frye (King George, Va./King George) both scored eight points each.
The WildCats host Eastern Mennonite this coming Saturday. Game time will be at 2:00 p.m.
