ASHLAND, Va.- The Randolph women's basketball team went on the road Wednesday to face Randolph-Macon in an ODAC midweek matchup. The Yellow Jackets defeated the WildCats 52-46.

The game was tied 5-5 at the 6:15 mark of the first quarter. Jump shots by Natalie Clark (Chesapeake, Va./Indian River) and Teniyah Crenshaw-Patterson (Newport News, Va./Heritage) put Randolph ahead 9-5 with 3:41 remaining in the period. The Jackets would come back to take a 13-11 lead with 45 seconds remaining but a Kylie Stark (Lynchburg ,Va./Brookville) layup knotted the game at 13-13 at the end of the quarter.

In the second quarter, the game was tied at 17-17 with 4:22 left in the period. The WildCats outscored the Yellow Jackets 7-2 to go ahead 24-19 at halftime.

While Randolph-Macon tried to cut into the WildCat lead in the third quarter, Randolph stayed out in front as it led at one point 31-24 with 6:33 showing on the game clock. Randolph-Macon then went on a 13-2 run to come back and take the lead away from the 'Cats and go up 37-33 with 1:07 left. A pair of free throws by Crenshaw-Patterson cut into the Yellow Jacket lead as the score stood at 37-35 in Randolph-Macon's favor at the conclusion of the period.

In the fourth quarter, Cameron O'Neil (Gloucester, Va./Gloucester) led off with a three-point basket to move the WildCats to within one point at 38-37. The two teams then traded off three pointers as Randolph-Macon led 43-41 at 8:34. The Yellow Jackets pushed their lead ahead to as much as eight points, 49-41, with under six minutes left to play. Randolph was able to make it a two-possession game, 50-46, with 3:18 left to play but could not get any closer as the Yellow Jackets held on for the victory.

"Defensively, we really controlled the tempo and kept them out of sync offensively especially in the first half," said head coach Steve Lanpher. "The 3rd quarter I thought we turned the ball over too much and allowed them to convert on the offensive end which allowed them to take a two-point lead into the 4th quarter. The 4th quarter we had enough stops on defense but unfortunately our shots didn't fall."

Randolph shot 16-of-52 (30.8%) overall on the night but just 5-of-22 (22.7%) from behind the three-point arc. The WildCats were an efficient 9-of-10 (90%) from the charity stripe. Randolph did lead in the rebounding battle 39-36.

Crenshaw-Patterson scored a season-high 17 points on 5-of-9 shooting and went 3-of-4 from behind the three-point arc. She also grabbed a team-high six rebounds.

"It was great to see Teniyah play well again," noted Lanpher "She just gives us such a rebounding and offensive boost!"

The WildCats travel to Guilford on Saturday. Game time will be at 5:30 p.m.
