LEXINGTON, Va.- The Randolph women's tennis team faced #29 ranked Washington and Lee on Wednesday afternoon in their first ODAC match of the season.
The highlight of the day for the WildCats came from Lena Kersten (Bonn, Germany) at #1 singles. Kersten faced off against the Generals' Izzy Koziol where she defeated Koziol 6-1, 6-3. Kersten trailed 3-2 in the second set and won 16 straight points to clinch the match and win the first point for Randolph off W&L since 1991.
Kersten also paired with Harper Whetzel (Grottoes, Va./Harrisonburg HS) for the first time at #1 doubles. Both played extremely well despite dropping an 8-5 decision to Koziol and Grace Lorenz.
In other matches, Molly McNair (New South Wales, Australia/Figtree) and Noura Elkhansa (Charleston, W.V./George Washington) took one game in their second doubles match against Kaitlyn Chalker and Haley Stoltz. Whetzel won a game at #3 singles against Stoltz. Yori Yancey won a game at #6 singles against Isabella Custard.
