LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team hosted its first and only match of the fall season on Wednesday afternoon as the WildCats faced Southern Virginia. The 'Cats defeated the Knights 8-1.
Randolph won two of three matches in doubles play.
Jacob Martin and
Jason Duval won their second doubles match 8-2.
Dev Mani (Bangladore, India/St. Claret PU College) and
Angelo de Asis (Clayton, N.C./Cleveland HS) were able to hold off the pair of Jacob Feldman and Aidan Hall 8-6 at third doubles. First doubles went to a tiebreaker where the duo of
Andreas Mulner (Brasnov, Romania) and
Ondra Pelda (Prague, Czech Republic) fell to Abram Robbins and Jeffrey Purcell 8-7.
Mulner won 7-6 in his first set match against Robbins and was ahead 1-0 when Robbins retired. Martin was a 6-0, 7-5 winner over Purcell at second singles. Pelda won 7-6, 6-1 at third singles. Duval was a 6-2, 6-1 winner at fourth singles. Mani needed a super tiebreaker at fifth singles and was able to win 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (12-10). De Asis defeated Aidan Hall 6-3, 6-4 at sixth singles.
The WildCats will next compete at the Pfeiffer Invitational on September 23.
