LEXINGTON, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team faced off against #36 Washington and Lee on Wednesday afternoon. The WildCats took two points from the Generals on the day.
The pair of Jason Duval and Andreas Mulner led their entire match against the duo of Jonthan Molner and Jake Vo winning 8-5. It marks the first doubles point ever taken by Randolph over W&L in program history.
First doubles saw Jacob Martin and Ondra Pelda match up against Evan Erb and James Kurani. Martin and Pelda took four games in the match.
In singles play, Dev Mani dropped his first set 6-2 to Jonathan Molner at #5 singles. Mani came back to win the next two sets 7-6 (7-5) and 1-0 (10-5). It is just the second singles point that the WildCats have taken off the Generals.
At #1 singles. Mulner played well against Erb, one of the top players in the nation dropping a 6-3, 6-1 match. Erb finished last season ranked #3 in the Region IV singles rankings only behind the Emory #1 and the Sewanee #1.
Pelda played really well but fell in two close sets to the W&L #3 Jake Vo 6-4, 7-5. Martin was edged out by Kurani 6-1, 7-5 at #2 singles.
Head Coach Sam Martinez commented on his team's performance. "An encouraging way to build on for the rest of the season," Martinez noted. "So happy for Andreas, Jason, and Dev for getting individual victories. Well deserved."
