LYNCHBURG, Va. The College Sports Communicators released its 2023 Academic All-District Softball Team which recognizes the nation's top students for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. Randolph was represented by
Kylie Stark (Lynchburg, Va./Brookville),
Paige Scruggs (Cowpens, S.C./Chesnee), and
Dominique Irving (Amherst, Va./Amherst County).
This is Stark's second All-District recognition of 2023 after being named to the Women's Basketball All-District team in February. In softball, she played every position in the infield at least once during the season. She had career highs in batting average, hits, and RBI. In the regular season home finale against Ferrum, her walk-off RBI single won it for Randolph.
In the classroom, she is a double major in Psychology and Sociology and has made Dean's List every semester. She is a member of Psi Chi, Alpha Kappa Delta, and Chi Alpha Honor Societies.
Scruggs appeared in 16 games in the circle for the WildCats and started 14 games. She pitched 59 innings and totaled 20 strikeouts while posting an ERA of 4.63. Academically, she is a Sport and Exercise Studies major with Health and Fitness concentration. She recently received the Randolph award for excellence in first-year chemistry and plans to be a tutor in Sport and Exercise Science next year.
Irving started 41 of 43 games and batted over .400 for the third straight year and ranks fourth in the ODAC in that category. Her 59 hits are third in the ODAC. She scored 33 runs which are tied for fourth, batted in 15 runs, and stole 11 bases. Irving had six extra-base hits (three doubles and three triples) over the course of the season. In the ODAC Tournament, Irving was 7-for-11 at the plate with four runs scored and one RBI. Her four hits against Bridgewater were the most for her all season as she was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Irving is a Sport and Exercise Studies major and is a member of Phi Alpha Theta and Chi Alpha Sigma Honor Societies. She is also a part of the Black Student Alliance.
The 2023 Academic All-District® Softball Teams, selected by College Sports Communicators, recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the diamond and in the classroom. The CSC Academic All-America® program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.
Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All- America® honorees will be announced June 6. Â
