Women’s Lacrosse Falls to Lynchburg

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph and Lynchburg women's lacrosse teams played each other for the first time in four years on Wednesday evening at WildCat Stadium. The Hornets topped the WildCats by the score of 17-3.

Randolph's overall record drops to 4-6 overall and 0-3 in the ODAC. Lynchburg improves to 4-6 on the season and 2-0 in conference play.

The Hornets scored the game's opening goal less than a minute into the first period. Randolph answered as Sophia Cirone (Stuart, Fla./South Fork HS) scored unassisted just under the 13 minutes mark to knot the game at 1-1. The Hornets then outscored the WildCats 7-0 the rest of the quarter to lead 8-1.

The WIldCats scored back-to-back goals just over three and a half minutes apart in the third quarter. Cirone scored unassisted and was followed by a Mackenzie Woodson (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Collegiate) solo score.

Cirone scored twice for Randolph, won three draws, caused one turnover, and picked up one groundball. Yanessa Cabrera (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) had four groundball pickups and caused two turnovers.

Taylor Batty (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) had 13 saves in the cage.

Randolph travels to Guilford on Saturday. Game time is at 4:30 p.m.
