Cirone Sets Single Season Goal Record in Women’s Lacrosse Home Finale

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team hosted Virginia Wesleyan on Wednesday afternoon in the WildCats' regular season home finale. The Marlins won the game by the score of 21-6.

With her third goal of the game scored early in the fourth quarter, Sophia Cirone (Stuart, Fla./South Fork HS) set a new Randolph single season record. She tops the previous record of 56 that was set by Taylor Klevenz in 2014. Cirone finished with four goals on the afternoon to stand at 58 for the season.

Beverly Alcock (Purcellville, Va.) scored the game 's first goal 25 seconds into the first quarter to give the WildCats a 1-0 lead. Virginia Wesleyan then scored nine straight times to go ahead 9-1 with 9:08 remaining in the second quarter. Alcock scored with a man down to make it 9-2 at the 8:03 mark.

Cirone scored consecutive goals at the 13:46 and 9:21 mark of the third quarter. She scored her record setting goal with 10:50 remaining in the fourth quarter and her last goal with just under seven minutes remaining in the game.

Cirone has scored four or more goals in nine games this season. Alcock ended the game with two goals and one groundball.

Yanessa Cabrera (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) and Cristina Berenguer Llongueras (Barcelona, Spain) both caused two turnovers each and picked up two groundballs. Olivia Richards (Limestone, Tenn./Pinecrest) won four draws.

Taylor Batty (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) had 15 saves in the cage. She led the team with five groundball pickups and caused two turnovers herself.

Randolph closes out its 2023 campaign at Shenandoah on Saturday. Game time from Winchester is at 1:00 p.m.
