LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team hosted Husson on Monday night at WildCat Stadium. The Eagles outscored the WildCats 6-2 in the second period as they pulled away for a 15-6 victory.
Husson scored the game's first goal at the 11:51 mark of the first quarter. A penalty on the Eagles gave Randolph an extra-man opportunity. The WildCats took advantage as
Ethan Caldwell (Santa Fe, N.M.//Santa Fe Prep School) scored off an assist from
Leyton Brightly (Spotsylvania, Va./James Monroe) to tie the game at 1-1 Randolph would take the lead with 5:40 left on a
Tyler Johnson (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) solo shot. Husson pulled ahead with a pair of goal 28 seconds apart towards the end of the period.
The Eagles added to their lead with three straight goals to start the second quarter. The WildCats cut into the Husson lead as
Bruce Patterson (Fork Union, Va./Fork Union Military Academy) scored with a man down. The Eagles would go on to lead 9-4 at halftime.
The teams exchanged shots and turnovers in the third period. Randolph scored with 5:18 remaining on a solo goal by Caldwell. The WildCats closed to within three as Patterson assisted
Chase Callan (Fredericksburg, Va.) at the 3:17 mark to make it 9-6. The Eagles moved ahead 11-6 at the conclusion of the period. They would shutout the WildCats in the fourth quarter and score four goals of their own.
Husson led in total shots 48-22. The Eagles had a slight edge in groundballs 24-22.
Patterson and Caldwell both had two goals each. Callan and Johnson scored once. Brightly tallied two assists.
Tom Stahler (Cape May Court House, N.J./Middle Township) led in groundballs with five.
Colin Murphy (Cedar Park, Texas/Austin) added four.
Adam Ulffers (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose) stopped 18 shots in the cage.
Randolph travels to Virginia Beach on Wednesday to play Wabash College at Cape Henry High School. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
