Women's Basketball ODAC Quarterfinal Preview

The Randolph women's basketball team is playing in the ODAC Tournament Quarterfinals for the second straight season and the third time overall. Fifth seeded Randolph takes on fourth seeded Guilford on Thursday at the Salem Civic Center at 3:00 p.m.
 
How They Got Here: Randolph had a program-best 14-game winning streak during the season. Their 18 overall wins are also a program record and their 12 ODAC wins are tied for the most in team history. Guilford went on a 13-game winning streak at one point and are 20-5 overall and posted a 13-5 mark in conference play.

The Series: The two teams will be meeting for the 58th time overall. Guilford leads 50-7 but the WildCats have won three of the last four meetings. The teams split the regular season series this year. Randolph won at home 78-42 back on December 3 and Guilford won their home game 75-63 on January 28.

In the ODAC Tournament: Randolph is making its 20th ODAC Tournament appearance and won its only Tournament game in 2017. The WildCats qualified for eight straight tournaments from 1984 to 1991 but did not earn another berth until 2013. The Quakers have won five ODAC titles (2001, 2002, 2012, 2013, 2017) with their last appearance in the ODAC Championship game coming in 2020 when they lost to Randolph-Macon. 

Last Time:  When the two teams last played each other in January, the Quakers jumped on the WildCats in the first quarter 25-10. Randolph came back to cut their deficit to single digits but Guilford remained on top as it increased its lead in the second half to win 75-63. Yanessa Cabrera scored 11 points to lead the WildCats. Teniyah Crenshaw-Patterson had a double-double of 10 points and 11 rebounds.

The WildCats: Randolph had two selections to the All-Conference Team in Stark (1st Team) and Crenshaw-Patterson (3rd Team).  Stark is averaging 12.2 points and also leads the team in steals with 60 which ranks third in the ODAC. Jessica Jennings is second in scoring with a 9.6 pt. average and is second in assists with 65. Crenshaw-Patterson is third in scoring and has a team-high 131 rebounds. Abbie Baker is second with 120 rebounds. Cabrera's 81 assists are third in the conference. Randolph has the best scoring defense in the ODAC as it is giving up 50.5 points a game. Opponents are only making 22.4% of their three-points attempts which is eighth in the NCAA.

The Quakers: Lindsay Gauldin was named the ODAC Player of the Year and a First Team selection. She is averaging 16 points a game which is currently tied for first in the ODAC. She leads in steals with 89. Anna Giannopoulou (2nd Team) is second on the Quakers in scoring with 10.4 points per game.  She is the team's leading rebounder with 161 boards and 6.4 per contest. Her 82 steals are second in the ODAC.  J'La Hinson leads Guilford in assists with 74. Courtney McMillian has blocked a team-high 33 shots followed by Giannopoulou (27), and Gauldin (22).
