LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team hosted its first match of the spring season on Friday as it took on William Peace. The WildCats edged out the Pacers 5-4.
The WildCats were down 2-1 after doubles play. The lone win was at first doubles where
Nicolas Alvarado (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Olimpo) and
Dev Mani (Bangladore, India/St. Claret PU College) took down Daniel Hidalgo and Benjamin Fleming 8-4.
Alvarado easily won his first singles match against Hidalgo 6-0, 6-0. Mani was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Patrick Buckler at second singles.
Jose Merhej (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) saved five match points in the super tiebreaker as he fended off Angel Araiza 6-1, 0-6, 12-10 at fourth singles.
Angelo de Asis (Clayton, N.C./Cleveland HS) clinched the match for the 'Cats as he defeated Fleming 7-6, 6-1 at third singles.
Randolph is back on the courts tomorrow as it hosts Roanoke in the WildCats' ODAC opener. The match starts at 1:00 p.m.
