Men’s Lacrosse Falls to Brevard 7-3

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team hosted Brevard at a cold and windy WildCat Stadium on Friday evening. A total of 10 goals were scored on the night with the Tornadoes defeating the WildCats 7-3.

Brevard scored the game's first goal with 11:40 remaining in the first period. Randolph answered three minutes later on a solo shot by Tyler Johnson (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison). The Tornados added two more goals in the quarter to lead 3-1.

Just two goals were scored in the second quarter with one by each team. Randolph had a chance on a pair of goals earlier in the period that both hit the goal post. Brevard nearly took a 5-2 lead with 1:46 left but Andrew McDonald's shot bounced off of the cross bar.

In the third quarter, another Tornado shot hit the side post. Brevard would get one to go in at 12:28 to lead 5-2. The WildCats responded as Chase Callan (Fredericksburg, Va.) assisted Ethan Caldwell (Santa Fe, N.M./Santa Fe Prep School) on his score less than a minute later. The Tornados took a 6-3 lead with just over a minute remaining in the quarter. They would add their seventh score with a little over four minutes left in regulation.

Shots were in Randolph's favor 34-32. The WildCats also led in groundballs 26-19.

Johnson, Caldwell, and Leyton Brightly (Spotsylvania, Va./James Monroe) all scored for the 'Cats. CJ Berry (Fredericksburg, Va./Massaponax) caused three turnovers. Tom Stahler (Cape May Court House, NJ/Middle Township) had seven groundball pickups and was 6-of-7 on faceoffs. Adam Ulffers (Greenville, N.C./J.H. Rose HS) had 10 saves in the cage.

Randolph travels to William Peace next Saturday. Game time from Raleigh, N.C. will be at 3:00 p.m.
