BUENA VISTA, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team travelled to Southern Virginia on Wednesday. After a lightning delay, the two teams finally hit the field. The WildCats tallied one goal in the first half and added two in the second as they kept the Knights off the board in winning 3-0.
Randolph improves its record to 2-1. Southern Virginia drops to 0-2-1.
The WildCats got their first shot on frame 24 seconds into the first half as Hordy Ndambo's (Kissimmee, Fla./Osceola) attempt was stopped by Knights keeper Dallin Chappell. Randolph got on the scoreboard in the 17th minute as Cooper Sayles (Hamilton, Va./Loudon Valley) scored his first goal as a WildCat off an assist from Rhajee Scarlett (Atlanta, Ga./Rosewell).
In the second half, Brian Kuhl (Gissen, Germany/James Monroe) scored a solo shot in the 56th minute to put the WildCats ahead 2-0. Later in the 78th minute, Noah Carney (Charleston, W.V./Homeschool) scored off an assist from Colby Lambert (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) to make it a 3-0 game.
Making his first career start in goal, Carter Kelly (Carrollton, Va./Smithfield) made four saves and also registered his first career shutout victory.
Overall, Randolph led in total shots 15-8 and had an 8-4 edge in shots on goal. The WildCats also had an 8-4 advantage in corner kicks.
The WildCats host North Carolina Wesleyan this coming Saturday. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
