LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's soccer team hosted Ferrum in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game on Wednesday night at WildCat Stadium. Despite outshooting the Panthers, the WildCats fell to Ferrum by the score of 2-1.
The loss drops Randolph's overall record to 4-2-2 overall and 1-1-1 in the conference. Ferrum improves to 4-2-2 and 2-0-1 in the ODAC.
The game did not start out well for the WildCats. In the 20th minute, Hordy Ndambo (Kissimmie, Fla./Osceola) tried to clear a long pass near Ferrum's goal but his attempt went into the back of the net for an own goal to give FC a 1-0 lead. The score stood that way at halftime. Randolph had three shots to Ferrum's one in the period.
The WildCats came out aggressive in the second half as they registered three shots with two on frame in under four minutes of game time. A corner kick in the 67th minute found Tory Brown (Portsmouth, Va./Churchland) but his shot attempt went right of the goal.
The Panthers struck for a second time in the 69th minute when Callum Harrison's shot from the right went just inside of the left post and in to give the visitors a 2-0 lead.
Randolph continued to push ahead but could not get a shot on goal. A pair of offside calls stymied a couple of scoring chances. Finally a foul on Ferrum's Jeancy Matumona-Bau in the box granted Randolph a penalty kick opportunity. Parker Aaron (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) came up and buried the shot to get the WildCats on the board and make it 2-1 in the 84th minute.
The WildCats had corner kicks in the 88th and 90th minutes, respectively, but could not get a potential shot at a game-tying goal.
Overall, Randolph outshot Ferrum 10-3 and 5-2 in shots on goal. Corner kicks favored the WildCats 13-2.
Zach Aylor (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) had one save for the 'Cats. William Winters came up with four stops for the Panthers.
The WildCats look to rebound this Saturday when they travel to Randolph-Macon. Game time from Ashland will be at 12:00 p.m.
