MOCKSVILLE,N.C.- The Randolph women's soccer team made a trip down to North Carolina on Saturday to face Carolina University. The WildCats scored a goal late in the second half to break a 1-1 tie and held on to defeat the Bruins 2-1.
The WildCats got on the board in the 37th minute on Alana Ballowe's (Dillwyn, Va./Buckingham County) first collegiate goal to take the lead. The Bruins would answer almost four and half minutes later to tie the game at 1-1.
The Bruins nearly took the lead at 72:45 but Sarah Walters' shot hit the post. The WildCats were able to take advantage as they would score at 76:21 on a goal by Joanne Torres (North Chesterfield, Va./Meadowbrook).
Carolina had one shot on goal with under five minutes to play but it was stopped by Randolph keeper Alexis Bossi (Falls Church, Va./Justice). Bossi finished with five saves on the night.
The WildCats won despite being outshot by Carolina 10-6. The Bruins had six shots on goal compared to four for the 'Cats. The Bruins had seven corners to three for Randolph.
Randolph returns to the Tarheel State on Wednesday when they face Salem. Game time from Winston-Salem will be at 4:00 p.m.
