HARRISONBURG, Va- The Randolph women's soccer team traveled to a familiar place on Thursday as they took on Eastern Mennonite in a designated non-conference contest. The Royals led 1-0 for more than half of the game but a late WildCat goal with two minutes remaining in regulation would end the game in a 1-1 tie.
The Royals outshot the 'Cats 5-3 in the first half but only had one shot on frame. Randolph had three corner kick opportunities in the first 10 minutes of the first half but could not find a connection. EMU got on the board in the 41st minute as it would convert on its corner kick opportunity.
Randolph upped its attack in the second half as it led in shots 9-5. The WildCats again had three consecutive corner kick opportunities at 59:32, 59:54, and 60:11 but could not cash in. The WildCats finally got one to go in as Sterlyn Woodward (Madison, Va./Madison County) scored in the 88th minute to knot the game at 1-1. Joanne Torres (North Chesterfield, Va./Meadowbrook) got a shot on goal to potentially win the game for Randolph but the attempt was turned away by Royals keeper Aja Laun.
Overall, Randolph led in total shots 12-10, Shots on goal were in Eastern Mennonite's favor 3-2. The WildCats led in corner kicks 11-3.
Alexis Bossi (Falls Church, Va./Justice) stopped two shots on the night. Laun had one save.
Randolph hosts its home opener this Tuesday September 6. Game time is at 7:00 p.m.
