LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team hosted former Old Dominion Athletic Conference rival Emory and Henry on Sunday afternoon. The Wasps had the upper hand on the WildCats as they would win 7-2.
E&H took all of the doubles matches. It was a close battle at #3 doubles as Jose Merhej (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) and Noah Carney (Charleston, W.V./Homeschool) faced Alvaro Garcia and Tyler Wills. Garcia and Wills edged out Merhej and Carney 8-6.
Randolph's wins came at #1 and #2 singles. Nicolas Alvarado (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Olimpo) defeated Brandon McGuire 6-3, 6-2 at first singles. Second singles was the last match on the court as Alex Kulvivat (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) defeated Archer Marlow 6-4, 7-5.
#3 and #4 singles were both 6-0, 6-0 wins for the Wasps. Carney lost his #5 singles match 6-0, 6-3 to Garcia.
The WildCats return to the court on Saturday as they host Randolph-Macon. Match time is at 1:00 p.m.
