LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team hosted cross-city rival Lynchburg on Friday afternoon in a key ODAC match. The Hornets won by the score of 7-2.
Two of the three doubles matches were close decisions. At second doubles, Colby Cook (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) and Bhuvan Ambekallu (Karnataka, India/Bethany High) lost to Andrew Freeman and Carter McCleary 8-6. The first doubles pair of Alex Kulvivat (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Nicolas Alvarado (Santiago, Chile/Colegi Olimpo) lost to Colton Mullins and Levi Vigdorchik 8-5.
In the singles portion, Kulvivat got the win at #2 as he defeated Mullins 6-3, 6-3, Ambekallu lost a close first set in his #3 singles match to Freeman 7-6. The second set was 1-0 Freeman but he had to retire from the match as the win went to Ambekallu.
Cook dropped a 6-2, 6-2 decision to McCleary at #4. Alvarado fell to Vigdochik 6-1, 6-1 at #1 as did Jose Merhej (Fairfax, Va./Oakton) at #5 to Cooper Brewen.
Randolph hosts Emory and Henry this Sunday. Match time is at 1:00 p.m.
