DANVILLE, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team made a mid-week trip down to Averett to face the Cougars on Wednesday afternoon. AU won by the score of 24-5.
Randolph trailed 3-2 in the first quarter. The Cougars scored four more times to lead 7-2.
Averett's lead was 11-2 in the second quarter when the WildCats scored back-to-back goals on free position shots to close to 11-4. AU would lead 15-4 at the end of the period and would go on to outscore the 'Cats 9-1 in the second half.
Sophia Cirone (Stuart, Fla./South Fork) led the WildCats with four goals, She won three draw controls, caused one turnover, and picked up one groundball. Olivia Richards (Limestone, Tenn./Pinecrest) had Randolph's other goal winning one draw control, picking up a groundball, and causing one turnover.
Beverly Alcock (Purcellville, Va.) scooped up three groundballs, caused two turnovers, and won two draws. Yanessa Cabrera (Manassas, Va./Stonewall Jackson) led in groundballs with four and caused two turnovers. Taylor Batty (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) finished with eight saves for Randolph.
The WildCats are idle until March 23 when they host Sweet Briar. Game time is at 5:00 p.m.
