Women’s Lacrosse Drops 20-15 Decision to Brevard

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team hosted its first game of the season on Saturday afternoon as the WildCats faced Brevard. The WildCats rallied late in the fourth quarter but ultimately fell to the Tornadoes 20-15.

The Tornadoes got on the board first with 11:04 remaining in the first quarter. The WildCats scored three straight to lead 3-1 with 9:33 to play in the period. Brevard would go on to outscore the 'Cats 5-1 for the remainder of the quarter and regained the lead to go up 6-4.

Brevard led 13-8 at halftime. The Tornadoes pushed their lead up to seven goals at 16-9 with 3:26 left in the third quarter. Alexis Bossi (Falls Church, Va./Justice HS) netted a goal off an assist from Molly McNair (Cordeaux Heights, New South Wales/Figtree) with 3:07 left to play in the period to make it 16-10.

The Tornadoes increased their lead to 19-10 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Randolph then rolled off five straight goals with three coming from Beverly Alcock (Purcellville, Va.), to get to within four goals at 19-15 with 3:35 to play in the contest. Brevard got the final goal of the game with 2:11 remaining to complete the game's scoring.

Total shots were slightly in Brevard's favor 36-31 with shots on goal 28-23 for the Tornadoes. Randolph had 15 groundballs to Brevard's 12.

Bossi led the 'Cats with five goals. Alcock scored three times and added an assist. Olivia Richards (Limestone, Tenn./Pinecrest), Sophia Cirone (Stuart, Fla./South Fork), and Cristina Berenguer (Barcelona, Spain) all scored twice. Nancy Alcock (Purcellville, Va.) had a goal and an assist. Richards won six draw controls. Taylor Batty (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) stopped eight shots in goal and picked up three groundballs.

Randolph travels to Averett on Wednesday. Game time will be at 4:00 p.m.
