RALEIGH, N.C.- The Randolph women's lacrosse team began its 2022 season at William Peace on Saturday. The WildCats defeated the Pacers 14-4.
The Pacers scored the game's first goal to lead 1-0 just over 30 seconds into the first quarter. Randolph tied it up on a solo goal by Olivia Richards (Limestone, Tenn./Pinecrest HS) at 13:17. The WildCats scored twice more to take a 3-1 lead with 7:36 remaining in the quarter. William Peace tallied two scores to knot the game at 3-3. Sophia Cirone (Stuart, Fla./South Fork) scored with 1:02 left in the period to give the 'Cats a 4-3 advantage.
Randolph dominated the second quarter as it put up seven goals to take an 11-3 lead at halftime. The WildCats added three more scores in the third quarter and William Peace's one goal in the fourth quarter ended the scoring for the day.
Cirone had a career-best seven goals on the afternoon. She added one assist for an eight-point day. She also picked up five groundballs and caused four turnovers. Richards also had a career effort with five goals. Alexis Bossi (Falls Church, Va./Justice) netted a pair of goals. Taylor Batty (Hampton, Va./Kecoughtan) came away with four saves for the win. Beverly Alcock (Purcellville, Va.) picked up five groundballs.
Randolph hosts its home opener next Saturday against Brevard. Game time will be at 1:00 p.m.
