Men’s Lacrosse Slips to Averett 11-6

LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's lacrosse team hosted its second game of the season on Saturday as it welcomed Averett to WildCat Stadium. A low-scoring affair favored the Cougars as they won by the score of 11-6

Randolph falls to 0-2 on the year. Averett is 1-0.

The WildCats struck first with just under 10 minutes remaining in the first quarter as Tyler Johnson (Alexandria, Va./Thomas Edison) assisted Zach Miller (Corpus Christi, Texas./Fork Union Military Academy) on the man-up scoring opportunity. The Cougars would tie the game up 47 seconds later.

The 'Cats took advantage of another man-up situation as Miller assisted Michael Baldwin (Culpepper, Va./Liberty) on his goal with 6:18 remaining in the quarter. Averett would again tie it up just over a minute later and then took the lead with 1:30 remaining in the period.

Averett took a two-goal lead on their own man-up opportunity at the 11:33 mark of the second quarter. Jack Dolan's (Dumfries, Va./Potomac) goal at 10:36 made it 4-3. The Cougars scored twice more to lead 6-3 at halftime.

AU scored twice more in the third period to go ahead 8-3. Randolph capitalized on a third man-up opportunity as Nathan Pradachith (Alexandria, Va./Edison) scored off an assist by Miller to make the score 8-4.

Averett scored a pair of goals in the fourth quarter to lead 10-4. A second Dolan goal made it 10-5. The Cougars went ahead 11-5 before Randolph scored a late goal to put the score at 11-6.

The WIldCats led in total shots 32-26.

Dolan scored twice to lead the WildCats. Miller, Pradachith, and Baldwin all had one score. Miller added two helpers. Johnson, Kent Snoddy (Palmyra, Va./Fluvanna County), and Leyton Brightly (Spotsylvania, Va./James Monroe) all tallied an assist each. William Olichney (Lynchburg, Va.) stopped nine shots in goal.

Randolph hosts William Peace next Saturday at 4:00 p.m.
