LYNCHBURG, Va.- The Randolph men's tennis team played its first match of 2022 spring season on Saturday as they hosted UVA-Wise. The WildCats were able to come away with a 5-4 victory.
In doubles play, Alex Kulvivat (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) and Nico Alvarado (Santiago, Chile/Colegio Olimpo) defeated the pair of Coleton Burke and Luke Jarnagin 8-4 at first doubles. Bhuvan Ambekallu (Karnataka, India/Bethany High) and Colby Cook (Smithfield, Va./Smithfield) fell to Dominic Hoffman and John Robery Kilgore 8-3.
The WildCats picked up wins in singles 1-4. Alvarado was a 6-4, 6-0 winner over Hoffman at first singles. Kulvivat won easily over Burke 6-1, 6-0 at second singles. Ambekallu won 6-4, 6-0 at third singles. The match came down to Cook and Kilgore at fourth singles. Kilgore won the first set 6-3 and Cook the second set 6-1. In the super tiebreaker, Cook was able to outlast Kilgore 10-6.
Randolph returns to the court next Saturday February 19 as the WildCats host Johnson and Wales (N.C.). The match starts at 1:00 p.m.
