BRIDGEWATER, Va- The Randolph men's soccer team traveled up to Bridgewater to face the Eagles in an Old Dominion Athletic Conference game on Wednesday afternoon. Despite outshooting the Eagles on the afternoon, the WildCats fell 2-1.
The loss drops Randolph's record to 5-3-2 overall and 2-2-1 in the ODAC. BC is now 7-2-2 and 3-1 in the conference.
Bridgewater took an early 1-0 lead just over two and half minutes into the first half. The WildCats had eight shots overall in the period and five on frame but Eagles keeper Charles Schwinefuss was there to stop the scoring chances.
Randolph got the equalizer three and a half minutes into the second half as Colby Lambert (Chesapeake, Va./Western Branch) assisted Ashton Poythress' (Mechanicsville, Va./Hanover) goal. The score was tied for less than seven minute of game time as BC's Mathew Shelor scored his second goal of the game to put Bridgewater on top 2-1.
The WildCats were held to just two shots on goal 30 seconds apart in the 58th minute as the Eagle defense clamped down.
Zach Aylor (Vinton, Va./William Byrd) finished with three saves for Randolph. Schwinefuss had seven.
Total shots were 17-6 in Randolph's favor and 10-5 in shots on goal. The WildCats dominated in corner kicks 7-1.
Seven yellow cards were issued on the day. Bridgewater received five and Randolph two.
The WildCats look to get back on track on Saturday when they host Hampden-Sydney. Game time will be at 7:00 p.m.
